XVIVO Abdominal Perfusion Machines

XVIVO is a MedTech company founded in 1998, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. They are dedicated to extending the life of all major organs. XVIVO’s innovative technologies enable researchers and clinicians to preserve, transport, and assess organs outside the body.

Their business concept focuses on developing and providing innovative technologies that support organ preservation, assessment and transport while awaiting transplantation. XVIVO abdominal machines including the Liver Assist, Kidney Assist and Kidney Assist Transport are available in Australia and New Zealand via Stark Medical ANZ.

Liver Assist

The Liver Assist is an in-hospital back-to-base system for ex-vivo oxygenated machine perfusion of donor livers under hypothermic and normothermic conditions prior to transplantation. This flexible device also offers users the ability to perform Controlled Oxygenated Rewarming (COR) protocol - starting with hypothermic perfusion, followed by rewarming and viability assessment using normothermic machine perfusion. It is a truly flexible machine.

The Liver Assist is intended to

  • Support improved transplantation outcomes for standard criteria donor livers.
  • Assess the viability of extended criteria and otherwise marginal donor livers that would be eligible for discard.

  • Oxygenated perfusion - oxygenated machine perfusion of donor livers under hypothermic or normothermic conditions.
  • Temperature-controlled perfusion - adjustable from 12°C to 37°C, with full cooling mode.
  • Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) single side via Portal Vein.
  • Dual Side HOPE perfusion (D-HOPE) possible via Hepatic Artery and Portal Vein.
  • Pressure-controlled perfusion is an important safety feature of the Liver Assist.
  • Pulsatile & continuous perfusion at 60 BPM on arterial side.
  • Audible and visual system alerts.
  • Battery operation - battery-powered operation during power failure and in-hospital transportation.

Kidney Assist

The Kidney Assist circulates oxygenated perfusion solution through a donated kidney at a controlled temperature in the time between kidney removal from the donor and transplantation into the recipient. The Kidney Assist provides temperature-controlled perfusion across a range of 12°C to 37°C, with full cooling mode also available. This enables hypothermic, normothermic and Controlled Oxygenated Rewarming (COR) protocols. A truly flexible machine perfusion solution.

  • Temperature controlled perfusion - hypothermic perfusion can use Machine Perfusion Solution - See Servator M.
  • Controlled perfusion parameters – monitors flow, pressure, temperature, and vascular resistance.
  • Pulsatile perfusion - 60 BPM rotary pump.
  • Audible and visual system alerts.
  • Battery operation - battery-powered operation during power failure and in-hospital transportation.

Kidney Assist Transport

The Kidney Assist Transport is a portable oxygenated cold pump system that provides continuous hypothermic pulsatile perfusion of donor kidneys with oxygenated preservation solution during transport from donor to recipient for a period of up to 24 hours.

Key Features

  • Oxygenated perfusion - oxygenated machine perfusion of donor kidneys during transport for up to 24 hours.
  • Hypothermic perfusion - kidney and perfusate are cooled using crushed ice.
  • Perfusate used is Machine Perfusion Solution - See Servator M.
  • Pressure-controlled perfusion - adjustable from 0 to 50 mmHg.
  • Pulsatile perfusion via renal artery - 60 BPM rotary pump
  • Continuous monitoring - monitors flow, temperature, and vascular resistance.
  • Battery operation - sufficient battery power for an application period of up to 24 hours.
